Welcome to Summer Reading 2025!

Although we will be having in-person programming all summer, we will continue to track books/points online. Please visit martinpubliclibrary.readsquared.com to register and log your reading (this is the same as last summer). You may begin logging pages on Monday, June 2, 2025! You will be able to earn points and prizes for books read and we will also have weekly prize drawings! Click here for information on adult programming. Summer Reading Registration

You may register at any point during June and July for the Summer Reading Program! We will be using READsquared to log books and track goals this year FOR ALL AGES. Sign up is simple, click here to access READsquared. There is also a free app available for both Android and iOS mobile devices. If you do not have access to internet or these devices, you may register by calling Mrs. Jenny at the library at 731.587.3148. There will be a laptop station in the children’s department to use for registering and logging books.


Scholastic Book Fair

Help us kick off our 2025 Summer Reading Program with the Scholastic Book Fair. The fair is open during regular hours, May 29-May 31. There will be books available for the whole family! Your name will be entered into a prize drawing for each purchase. All proceeds from the book fair will go directly toward the purchase of new children’s books for the library.


Family Trivia Night!

Join us on Monday, June 2nd for an evening of trivia fun! When we say “family trivia,” we mean there will be questions even our younger patrons can answer! All ages are welcome to play. Doors open for registration of team at 5:30 PM and the game will begin at 6:00 PM. Bring your family or friends to form a team or come by yourself and join in with a group. Maximum team size of six.

EVERYONE WALKS AWAY A WINNER!



Join us for a fun Community Party outside the library at Festival Park on Saturday, June 7th, 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM, to celebrate Summer Reading! We’ll have bounce houses, face painting, a tie-dye station, crafts, snow cones, popcorn, giveaways, and games! You don’t want to miss it!

Dog Days with Halfway Home Animal Rescue!

Storybook Stroll!

Storybook Stroll is back by popular demand! Participate in the summer reading program at any library in the Obion River Region and receive a ticket to Storybook Stroll at Discovery Park on Saturday, June 28 at 10:00 AM. Bring the whole family to attend the event and then stay at DPA for the remainder of the day for FREE!


Animals of Discovery Park!

Meet and learn about some of the animals housed at Discovery Park of America on Monday, June 30th at 3:00 PM! This is always a crowd favorite. You never know who may be here to visit!


Once Upon a Palette!

Join us for a fun, interactive puppet show on Monday, July 7th at 3:00 PM. Runaway Puppet Theater presents Once Upon a Palette, a colorful, laugh-out-loud puppet show the whole family will love! Featuring wacky takes on Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood, and Snow White, this high-energy performance includes sing-alongs, silly surprises, and jokes from a very funny Water Buffalo!


Life-Sized Board Game!!

Bring the whole family to come and play a life-sized board game in the Event Center portion of the library on Saturday, July 12, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Follow the game board at your own pace and pick up fun prizes along the way!


Magic Mr. Nick

Magic lovers of all ages are invited to come and enjoy a spellbinding show fit for the whole family. Magic Mr. Nick will be here on Monday, July 14th at 3:00 PM. Prepare to be amazed with tricks, laughter, and jaw-dropping surprises. All ages are welcome!


GLOW Party!

Get ready to light up the Event Center with an all-ages Glow-in-the-Dark Party full of fun and games! Wear your brightest clothes and join us for a glowing good time on Monday, July 21st at 3:00 PM.


Daily Summer Activities


Toddler Time

Toddler Time is for children 0-3 years old and their caregivers. Enjoy age-appropriate stories, songs, bubbles, and more! Toddler Time meets every Tuesday at 10 AM in the Event Center.

Story Hour

Story Time is intended for children ages 3 - 5 years old. Enjoy age-appropriate stories, crafts, and a snack. Story Time meets each Tuesday at 10 AM in the Story Hour Room.

Family Movies

Each Tuesday of the summer beginning June 4th, we will be showing movies the whole family can enjoy! Join us in the Event Center at 2 PM. Pillows and blankets are encouraged for a more comfortable movie experience. You may bring snacks.


LEGO® Club

Summertime LEGO® Club will meet every Wednesday at noon through the months of June and July. Use your imagination to build something amazing!

The Obion River Regional Libraries will be partnering with Discovery Park of America again this fall for the LEGO® Competition. Monthly themes will be announced and you may begin building your entries during the summer.


Makerspace Summer Schedule

The Makerspace will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays through June and July at 11 AM. Patrons may choose to work on the highlighted project of the day (click here for a printable craft schedule) or personal projects. Please ask for assistance before using any equipment within the Makerspace.

Children under 10 MUST be accompanied by an adult.


Pokémon Card Trading Days

Bring your card collection and possibly make some trades! Trading days occur on the third Thursday of each month throughout the year. These events are come and go, with no obligation or registration required! All ages are welcome!


Anime Club

Watch and discuss an episode of anime (to be voted on) and try some Japanese snacks. Anime will be appropriate for teens and adults, younger patrons may attend with parent permission. We will meet on select Wednesdays at 2 PM.


Family Cooking Classes

Join us each Friday at 11:00 AM in the Demonstration Kitchen to go on a food adventure! Learn how to make simple snack items. All ages are welcome. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.


Sewing Workshops!

Color our World with Kindness by learning how to create “chemo pillows” with 4-H Agent Mary Morgan on June 25 and July 23 at 2:00 PM. Pillows will be donated to a local cancer center.

Registration is required. Ages 10 to adult.


Music Classes for Kids!

Becca Steele, Dresden Middle School Band Director, will teach us how to color our world with music! Classes will meet on Thursdays at 10:00 AM.


Artist Trading Cards

Come learn about Artist Trading Cards and create a few of your own! We will be swapping cards with a library in Texas (possibly more than one). Supplies will be provided on select program dates or you can make your cards at home.


Board Game Nights

Join us for games, friends, and fun! Organized and free play games tables will be available on the second floor of the library. All ages are welcome to play on June 5 and July 3, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM.


Dress to Impress

Team up and use the provided items to dress your partner. There will be voting and prizes! Don’t miss the fun on Wednesday, June 11th at 2:00 PM.


Watercolor Class for Kids

We are hosting a Watercolor Class for Kids on June 9-12 at 10:00 AM with an exhibition scheduled for June 12 at 11:00 AM. This class is for rising 3rd-rising 5th graders and will be taught by Teresa Collard. Registration is required as class size is very limited. Call 731-587-3148 to register your child.


Iconic Art Kids Edition

Learn about some of the most iconic artists and create your own masterpieces each week. We will meet each Tuesday during June and July at 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM. Ages 6-12. Registration is required.


Creative Chaos

Teens are invited to get creative while learning about different art styles and famous artists each Thursday at 3:00 PM. Registration is required as space is limited. Ages 13-18.


Book Bedazzling!

Bring your favorite book or choose one of the limited selection available and add some bling to the cover! Glue and rhinestones will be provided. Wednesday, July 9th at 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.


Reader’s Theater for rising 3rd-5th graders!

Reader’s Theater is a learning opportunity for young readers and involves the participants in self-expression, group cooperation, reading skills, language appreciation, and creativity. It is a simple introduction into drama and there are no costumes, special lighting, memorization, or previous experience required! Dr. Teresa Collard will be writing the scripts and directing. Rehearsals will be held on July 14, 15 & 16 from 2-4 PM, and July 17 from 2-5 PM. The performance will be on July 17 at 5:30 PM. Space is limited to 12 participants. Call 731-587-3148 to register.


Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Bring your stuffed animal to the library for a special bedtime story at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 17th. Leave your friend with us for a night of fun! Pick them up on Friday morning and learn all about their sleepover adventures.
