Upcoming Events:
The May WCHGS program will highlight the University of Tennessee Press Spring-released A Thousand Weddings. It is the whimsical and engaging memoir of the late Hope Hart of Dresden about her early years as the daughter of the itinerant Methodist minister Reverend Sterling R. Hart in West Tennessee and West Kentucky. In 1920 she was a Dresden teacher and high school principal who later became an administrative assistant to two Tennessee Congressmen in Washington, D.C.
The May 19th meeting will be at 6pm in the Genealogy Room upstairs at the Martin Public Library.
Speakers will be Marvin Downing and Greg Roach. The latter will identify the many twists the manuscript took before it became a book. Downing will briefly summarize Hart’s life, sketch the book’s content, and read short selections from Hart’s manuscript.
The session is free and open to the public. Books may also be purchased there for $25.00.
