Upcoming Events:

Nancy Neese Culver, a 1966 graduate of Martin High School and a decade-long resident of Martin, will be the guest speaker at the Weakley County Historical and Genealogical Society on Monday evening, September 21, at 6 pm at the top floor of the Martin Public Library. Nancy will present her year-long journey of writing Roofs Over Our Memories, the story of her parents, John Thomas and Margaret Pritchette Neese, Martin residents for three decades.

The story is based on the homes, churches, schools, hospitals, and stores in the seven towns across West Tennessee where the Neese family lived before settling in Martin in the late 1950s. The book is filled with over 750 photos of those buildings, transformed into sketches, as well as many family photos. Nancy will present her family story and style not only as her family’s story, but also as a way to think about writing your own story!

Nancy and her husband Jim Culver of Dresden, along with their four children, have lived in nine homes in five states and in England. Their children have attended a dozen schools, been members in five churches, and shopped in more stores than they can count. Nancy still loves Martin, counts it as her hometown, and has maintained contacts with many Martin residents over the nearly six decades since she lived here.
