**On November 15th, The Jackson Purchase Historical Society along with the Weakley County Historical Society will host a program starting at 10:30 am in the Genealogy Room upstairs at the Martin Public Library. Speakers will be Dr. Marvin Downing and Greg Roach who will give a brief narrative of the book "A Thousand Weddings" wrote by Hope Hart, a Weakley County native. A book presentation will follow the meeting. This event is free and open to the public.

**Weakley County Historical and Genealogical Society will be meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, in the Genealogy room at Martin Public Library.

A short business meeting will be conducted. Join us for an enlightening presentation by local researcher and genealogist **Candace Thornton** as she unveils the remarkable story of **Percy Gardner Shadd**, a Black attorney from Weakley County. His life spanned Tennessee and Georgia in the early 1900s, offering a unique perspective on a pivotal era.

Through her extensive research of court records, deeds, and family histories, Candace has uncovered the legacy of **Shaddtown** and the community that once thrived there. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about a forgotten chapter of our local history and the impact of Percy Gardner Shadd!
